Health Services

Medicare-ABCD

As school nurses, we are committed to providing the best possible care and promoting student wellness.

We support all students with health issues to ensure that they can fully benefit from their education and school-related activities. We serve as health counselors for students, families, and staff as well as liaisons with outside health care providers whose treatment of students is relevant to the student's school progress.

School nurses perform all New York State-mandated health screenings, dispense medications to students according to physician orders and provide emergency and routine medical care to students and staff.  In addition, the nurse monitors the certification of medical immunizations and keeps completed physical examination forms on record.

Effective communication between the school and families is essential. Therefore, please inform us about important information regarding your child’s medical condition(s) and/or medication(s).

Administering Prescription, Over-the-Counter, & Topical Medications

For a school nurse to administer medication(s), NYS law requires that each student have a patient-specific order from a licensed prescriber and written parent/guardian permission for any prescription or over-the-counter medication, including topicals (i.e. ointment, Calamine lotion, Benadryl, cough drops, skin lotions, Vaseline, etc.).

All medications (prescription and over-the-counter) must adhere to these guidelines and must be brought in by a parent/guardian in the original container.

Parent/Guardian Authorization Form

Additional permission is required for those students who request permission to carry their own medication on campus or keep this medication in a P.E. Locker. Please contact the child's school nurse directly.

Health Screening Information

The district’s School Health Services program supports your student’s academic success by promoting health in the school setting.  One way that we provide care for your student is by performing health screenings as mandated by the State of New York.

A letter will be sent home if your student needs follow-up with your health care provider.  For vision screenings only, parents will be notified of all results.  Please call the school’s Health Office with any questions or concerns.

The following screenings will be required or completed at school:

Attendance

In the event a student will be absent from school, you must notify the following contact at your child's school. Please indicate your child's name, teacher name and reason for their absence.
