World Languages
The Ardsley World Language Department is committed to the District's mission to build on our tradition of academic excellence, success for every student, and global citizenship.
Following the revised New York State World Language Standards (2021), teachers immerse Ardsley students in engaging lessons in French, Italian, or Spanish by implementing proficiency-aligned and culturally-relevant units that enable our students to have a common world language experience and acquire language for long-term proficiency. By the end of high school, our senior world language students are passionate language learners who have become active global citizens, using their language proficiency and cultural knowledge to influence the world around them.
Academic Excellence in World Language
The world language students in Ardsley have a history of academic excellence, as demonstrated by success in AP French, AP Italian, AP Spanish, and AP Latin exams and yearly inductions into the Société Honoraire de Français (National French Honor Society), Società Onoraria Italica (National Italian Honor Society), Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (National Spanish Honor Society). French, Spanish, and Italian students can earn college credit through a Syracuse University Project Advance (SUPA) course, and Latin students can earn credit through SUNY Albany. Both universities have partnered with Ardsley High School to offer our high school students college credit by successful completion of these college-level courses in high school.
New York State Seal of Biliteracy
Since 2023, the New York Seal of Biliteracy has been awarded to Ardsley students 40 times, acknowledging a student’s high level of proficiency in English and at least one other world language. As of 2024, Ardsley students have earned the Seal of Biliteracy in French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish, and we are hoping to acknowledge additional languages that are spoken in our community every year! For more information on the Seal of Biliteracy requirements, please visit this website or contact our Seal Coordinator Jason Tamez (jtamez@ardsleyschools.org).
